Mood Regulation

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction- MSRB
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy is a meditation therapy, though originally designed for stress management, it is being used for treating a variety of illnesses such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain, cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, skin and immune disorders.
Mindfulness meditation is a method by which attention skills are cultivated, emotional regulation is developed, and rumination and worry are significantly reduced though learning to observe and experience without judgement. It is learning to intentionally direct our attention to the present moment.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Mastering thoughts, feelings and behaviors
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.
CBT is based on several core principles, including:
- Psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking.
- Psychological problems are based, in part, on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior.
- People suffering from psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives.
These principles guide techniques to help clients challenge thinking errors, better identify and feel feelings, and change automatic behavioral and emotional responses.

Skills (DBT, ACT)
Getting out of our heads and into our bodies brings change and relief
Sometimes we know what we want to accomplish and just don't understand how to get there. With the use of a combination of skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Movement therapy, and Acceptance and commitment therapy, clinicians can teach you thought and behavioral techniques to change your response to your emotions and mood.
Many of these skills can be learned and implemented in just a few sessions allowing you to break patterns of choices and behaviors that may be making your life unmanageable. The skills empower you to choose how to feel, respond, and express your emotions instead of suppressing or denying them.

Narrative Therapy-Living in alignment with your values
What if you are not the problem? Narrative therapy is a form of counseling that views people as separate from their problems and destructive behaviors. This allows clients to get some distance from the difficulty they face; this helps them to see how it might actually be helping or protecting them, more than it is hurting them. With this perspective, individuals feel more empowered to make changes in their thought patterns and behavior and “rewrite” their life story for a future that reflects who they really are, what they are capable of, and what their purpose is, separate from their problems.
